FAQ
About Slinger
Our mission is bringing people together. Transport is one of the biggest challenges of our time: people travel to the same destination every day, but mostly alone, which drives up costs, congestion and unnecessary CO₂ emissions. Slinger connects people who are already headed the same way, to the same event, office or match, so they travel together instead of alone. That makes the journey cheaper, more social and more sustainable.
More than 150 organisations across Europe use Slinger for shared journeys: employers, event organisers and venues, and sports clubs. Slinger started with events and has grown from there, not a pivot, the same approach applied to more places. Rides are always peer-to-peer, between people who already share something, an employer, an event or a club.
Yes, the Slinger app (iOS and Android) shows you all your events, locations and groups. Organisations can also build the same functionality into their own website or app.
Yes. At football matches there are on average only 2.1 people per car, and 2.55 at concerts. In a five-seat car that usually leaves two to three empty seats. Adding one extra passenger cuts average CO₂ emissions per person from around 137 to 69 grams per kilometre.
Slinger is active in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and the United Kingdom.
Slinger's head office is at Overtoom 323 in Amsterdam. The core team works from Amsterdam; other team members work remotely.
Slinger isn't an open marketplace like BlaBlaCar, where strangers find each other for long trips, and it isn't a ride-hailing app like Uber, which creates a brand-new trip. Slinger is organisation-led: companies, events and sports clubs use it as their own tool, in their own branding. Rides stay peer-to-peer, within a closed group of people who already have something in common.
Yes, you can book a demo at slinger.to/book-a-demo. You can also create a free account and explore the platform yourself first.
For organisations
In the dashboard you create events, locations or groups, and track results in real time: number of rides, kilometres saved, CO₂ reduction and user engagement, per event or across the whole organisation.
Yes, via an "area": a linked zone within which rides are automatically shared between the connected organisations. Employees from different companies on the same site can then carpool with each other. Closed groups always stay closed, even within an area.
Slinger integrates via APIs, Google Tag Manager, and connections with ticketing and event systems like Atleta, Cvent, Paylogic, Stager, Tracx, Utick and Weeztix. Other integrations are available on request, and we offer a public API for your own integrations. The widget can be embedded on your own website, app or intranet.
We aim for 24/7 availability but don't guarantee it. Maintenance, updates or incidents can occasionally cause a brief interruption.
Just a few minutes. You set up your organisation and/or event yourself in the dashboard, no developer or IT project required.
A communications toolkit, onboarding, and a media library with social media visuals, videos, ready-made campaigns per industry, and communication guidelines.
You first create an event, location or group in the dashboard. It appears immediately in the Slinger app and gets its own landing page. If you also want it on your own website or in your app, you embed it with a few lines of code.
Slinger is available in 10 languages: Dutch, English, French, German, Danish, Spanish, Italian, Czech, Hungarian and Slovak.
The calculation is based on the distance between departure and destination, with a correction for people who wouldn't have travelled individually anyway, and the average CO₂ emissions of a car. Results can be used for, among other things, WPM, ESG and CSRD reporting.
In the UK, HMRC's tax-free mileage schemes, including the 5p-per-mile passenger payment, apply only to business journeys, not to ordinary commuting between home and a permanent workplace. For commuting specifically, carpooling's main financial benefit for employees is simply splitting fuel costs directly, rather than a tax incentive.
Slinger helps people who are already heading the same way to carpool together. That means fewer individual trips, lower costs per person, and reduced CO₂ emissions. The impact is automatically shown in the dashboard.
Slinger charges a fixed monthly base fee for the platform, plus a variable amount per event day, employee or team. The larger the volume, the lower the price per unit. Current rates are on our Pricing page.
Yes. You can create a free account, set up a community and explore the dashboard. No sales call needed, and there's no minimum number of employees, event days or teams. You only pay once you activate Slinger.
You can pay monthly or annually. Annual payment gets you two months free; a monthly plan can be cancelled at any time. Payment is by invoice, direct debit or credit card.
Yes. Upgrading is possible at any time and takes effect immediately. Downgrading or cancelling is done via the dashboard and takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
You automatically move to the next pricing tier. Your existing data and settings are kept.
For users
A driver offers their available seats, a passenger books a seat. Both then receive a confirmation of the ride.
Yes. If no suitable ride is available, you can join a waiting list. As soon as a new ride becomes available, waitlisted passengers automatically get notified.
Yes. Drivers can set a suggested price, which passengers pay via Stripe when booking, up to an adjustable cap per ride.
If you cancel at least 24 hours before departure, the amount paid is refunded, minus service and transaction fees. Cancelling later, or not showing up, forfeits the right to a refund.
Drivers are paid 8 hours after the ride has taken place, via Stripe.
Yes, a single Slinger account lets you belong to several groups or events at the same time, for example your employer's and your sports club's.
Yes, you must be at least 16 years old to use Slinger.
You're never just riding with a stranger: you already share something with your ride partner, an employer, a club or an event. Among passengers, "travelling with others" is the most-cited reason for carpooling. Of those who start carpooling, 60 to 69% do so at least a few times a month.
Yes, via social media, WhatsApp, email or AirDrop.
Set what you want to receive per notification type, turn off usage statistics, or request your data or its deletion.
Only for commuter groups. See your colleagues, upcoming rides, and your own rides in calendar view.
Safety & trust
Users decide for themselves who they ride with and what information they share. We also give practical safety tips, such as letting someone know about your ride and sharing your location where possible.
Every driver on Slinger must hold valid third-party motor insurance, which covers damage to third parties, including passengers, during the ride. We also recommend users check their own policy terms in advance.
No. Users agree to our terms when signing up and are themselves responsible for their participation in a ride.
Yes, after a ride. This builds trust within the community.
Yes. Payments are processed via Stripe. Slinger itself doesn't store any card or bank details.
Contact the relevant insurers and, if needed, seek medical or legal help. The incident can also be reported directly within the Slinger platform.
Every user must verify a mobile phone number, and can also sign in with a Google or Apple account. For commuter groups, verification via a work email may also be required. Users can additionally add their vehicle type and licence plate to their profile.
Yes. In the Slinger app, ride partners can chat directly and settle any shared costs. There's no need to share a phone number or email address. This works in the native app only, not in a website widget.
Yes. Drivers need, among other things, a valid driving licence and valid third-party insurance, and can't carry more passengers than there are seat belts. Both driver and passengers wait at least 15 minutes in case of a delay. The full rules are in our terms and conditions.
