How to get to the Dutch Grand Prix without breaking the bank

Zandvoort is closed to cars during the Dutch Grand Prix, and a weekend at the circuit is pricey enough already. Here's how Park + Ride works, what your other options are, and how carpooling takes the edge off the cost of getting there.

A weekend at the Dutch Grand Prix is expensive enough without overpaying on transport too. If you’re heading to Zandvoort in August, sort your travel out early: the town itself is closed to cars during the race weekend, and the alternatives fill up fast. Here’s a step-by-step look at your options, what they cost, and the smartest way to get there.

Zandvoort closed to cars during the Dutch Grand Prix

During the Dutch Grand Prix, Zandvoort and the surrounding municipalities are off-limits to cars and motorcycles. Bring a car anyway, and you’ll park outside town and cover the last stretch by bike, shuttle or bus. In short, there are three ways in:

  • By public transport – the Connexxion day ticket, straight from Haarlem Station.
  • By car – Park + Ride: park outside Zandvoort, cover the last few kilometres by bus.
  • By bike – Park + Bike, or entirely under your own steam.

By bus: the Dutch Grand Prix day ticket

Travelling without a car? Connexxion runs a dedicated day ticket for the race weekend. Here’s how it works:

Outbound

  • Bus lines 300 and 356 run straight from Haarlem Station to the circuit every day, with extra buses laid on so one leaves every 5 to 6 minutes.
  • Line 81 shuttles from Haarlem Station three times an hour, all day.
  • At booking, pick a departure window from Haarlem Station: 08:00-09:00, 09:00-10:00, 10:00-11:00 or 11:00-12:15 (on Saturday 22 August a bus already runs from around 7:00).

Return

  • No booking needed: just hop back on at the same stop after the race.
  • A bus leaves every 5 minutes for Haarlem Station, until 20:00.

Validity and price

  • 13 euros per person from age 12, free for children up to and including 11.
  • Valid on all Connexxion bus lines across the Amstelland-Meerlanden and Haarlem-IJmond region.

Still need to get yourself to Haarlem Station? Don’t drive there solo: find a co-rider on Slinger, or offer your own ride and split the trip to the station.

By car: park at Q-Park and hop on the bus

Coming by car instead? On Friday 21, Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 August, park in Amstelveen, Hoofddorp or Amsterdam and continue by bus. A Park + Ride ticket, booked in advance via Q-Park, costs 55 euros per car – bus there and back included, for up to 5 people. Which garage works best depends on where you’re coming from:

  • Q-Park Spaarne Gasthuis (Hoofddorp): straight to the circuit on line 300.
  • Q-Park Handelsplein (Amstelveen): straight to the circuit on line 356.
  • Q-Park Mahler (Amsterdam Zuid-AS): line 346 to Haarlem Station, then change to line 81, 300 or 356. Or line 198 to Knooppunt Schiphol Noord, then change to line 356, which runs straight to the circuit.

Book early: spots are limited and they go fast.

Driving to the Park + Ride? Don’t go it alone: the ticket covers up to five people, so find a co-rider on Slinger or offer your own ride and split the cost.
